New Survey to be Released Wednesday: School Disruptions During the COVID-19 Pandemic Threaten to Widen the Skills Gap
Express Employment Professionals will release a white paper Wednesday detailing the workforce fallout of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oct. 11, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Wednesday, Express Employment Professionals will release a new national survey of U.S. adults detailing how more than a year of remote learning for students has left the future workforce unprepared, creating a "lost generation."
The survey, conducted by The Harris Poll, reveals 71% of adults agree that between people retiring earlier and the impact of reduced learning time for students over the last year, the workforce is in trouble. Only a slight majority (56%) say the U.S. is taking the right steps to help them recover.
With nearly three-quarters of Americans (74%) saying society as a whole will suffer from the "lost generation," The Harris Poll survey also dives into who is responsible for fixing the situation and how lawmakers, employers and educators can act swiftly to rethink and improve the education system, not just in the short-term but for the long haul.
"The start of this new school year is an inflection point with big implications in the coming years," Express CEO Bill Stoller said. "Intervention now is imperative to save this 'lost generation,' and the good news is it's not too late. Change will take a concerted effort by many entities, but it's well worth the investment."
