NEW YORK, May 11, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- New York-based Australian cartoonists, stand-up comics, podcast hosts, and regular cartoon contributors to The New Yorker, Scott Dooley (Writer) and Jason Chatfield (Illustrator and Writer) announce their new book: "You're Not a Real Parent Until…" (Libra Press) is available for Pre-Order – and will be released June 13, 2023, just-in-time for Father's Day (June 18). This widely anticipated book is the perfect gift for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and really anyone who's been a babysitter. It will also appeal to New Yorker cartoon enthusiasts.
Dooley and Chatfield emphasize, "If you only buy one collection of cartoons about parenting that was written by two Australians who do cartoons for The New Yorker, make it this one."
"You're Not a Real Parent Until…" is filled with over one hundred hilarious full-color cartoons in the beloved style of The New Yorker representing the "modern family" characters over four stages of a child's life: 1. Babies, 2. Toddlers and Kids, 3. Tweens and Teens and 4. All Grown Up. And as a stress-reliever filled with relatable satire; "This collection of delightful observations will reassure all parents that everything's going to be totally fine."
This is the first book in the upcoming "You're Not a Real…" Series by this Writer-Artist team. The series will explore dog-ownership, golfing, being a New Yorker, and more.
Globally syndicated cartoonist Jason Chatfield and writing partner Scott Dooley often brainstorm ideas on their Podcast (Is There Something In This?). This creative duo regularly pitches cartoons to The New Yorker editors on Tuesdays, find out if their cartoons are purchased by Friday, and then wait for what can feel like an eternity to have them published. And as the former Cartoon Editor for The New Yorker for nearly 20 years, Bob Mankoff explains, "The New Yorker is not the bedrock, it's The Everest" for cartoonists.
When asked what inspired the idea for a "You're Not a Real…" series, Dooley explained, "It was based on a bit of stand-up Jason was doing". In his stand-up comedy routine, Chatfield likes to emphasize, "Real New Yorkers want to keep telling me why I'm not a real New Yorker. They've always got a reason…"
Dooley also confesses, "My wife and I are trying to start a family. And me being a bit of a planner, I started doing a lot of research…My friend's kids (who will remain nameless) kept doing a number of things, I have to go, Is that normal?...And every parent was like, oh yeah…"
So out of Chatfield's stand-up bit and Dooley's parenting research, this comedic Writer-Artist team created this first book "You're Not a Real Parent Until…" in their entertaining "You're Not a Real…" Series.
The New Yorker now has an "exclusive" to publish the first images for this new book close to the publication date, so stay tuned and Pre-Order your copy today.
