Author J.S. Cromartie details two contrasting teen lives
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 3, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Told from two separate journal entries, "Our Brief Hours of Play" follows two teens from polar opposite spectrums of life who meet during an unfortunate circumstance that bridges into a strong friendship that will be tested throughout its entirety from middle school through adulthood.
During the summer heading into high school, a sheltered upper-middle-class jock named Mark saves a girl named Misha from drowning in a pool. He offers her swimming lessons. Misha is mysterious and her unique view on life builds Mark's attraction to her.
Mark and Misha form a strong bond over the summer, but their time quickly comes to a close as the two are off to separate high schools across town from each other. Even with the distance, the two remain close. Until one day, Misha disappears.
Months later they reunite, leaving Mark with more questions than answers until he finds a journal that she left in his car. He discovers the abusive world that she is a victim of, which is leading her to strongly consider suicide. Mark embarks on a frantic journey to rescue Misha once again.
Cromartie's story delves into the cultural divides of class while understanding that deep connection transcends differences in background and economic status. Ultimately, the characters must face the hard work of loss and letting go, in order to find hope again.
"The friendships that last will ultimately require both whimsy and sacrifice," Cromartie said. "I want readers to press in on caring for someone even if his/her/their world is radically different."
