CLIFTON, N.J., Dec. 10, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Human history is filled with atrocities. From slave trade to forced migration, from en masse killings to torture, countless acts of violence have left a heavy toll on human life and dignity. Research shows many of these atrocities were actually predictable and could have been prevented if they were acted upon in time.
A career journalist for the past 25 years, Dr. Bülent Keneş is presenting a credible argument in his book A Genocide in the Making? that such an atrocity is imminent in present-day Turkey, yet it can be prevented if the international community can take action now. Based in Sweden, Dr. Keneş is among tens of thousands of victims who are currently suffering from the crackdown against dissidents in Turkey by the Erdoğan regime. A Genocide in the Making? is a fruit of his shared background as an independent journalist and head of many journalistic outlets, coupled with his experiences as a lecturer. In this eye-opening new book Keneş outlines the relentless persecution that has been under way in Turkey since 2016 and how almost all the stages that lead to a "genocide" have been fulfilled.
A Genocide in the Making? is a recount of President Erdoğan's cruel approach towards the Hizmet Movement, a civic, social movement that fosters education, nonprofit work, and religious dialogue. It starts by exploring the events that allowed President Erdoğan to rise to power in the first place and his interest in the Hizmet Movement. It then goes into great detail about the lengths that the regime has gone through to essentially obliterate the Movement from existence. No stone is left unturned in this work, as Keneş painstakingly outlines the dramatic unfold of events in a country that is rarely within the fold of interest among mainstream American and European populations.
Keneş' book is a cry for action. He warns that the country could be on the brink of a genocide as tens of thousands of political dissidents remain in custody while more and more of the international community's criteria for what constitutes a genocide continue to be met.
Bülent Keneş, PhD, authored six books on Turkish politics, Iran, Islam. A veteran journalist for over 25 years, Keneş is the founding editor-in-chief of the prestigious Today's Zaman, an English daily published in Turkey until 2016 when it was shut down by the Erdoğan regime. He is also among the founders of Stockholm Center for Freedom (SCF). He is now a member of a team establishing the European Center for Populism Studies (ECPS) in Brussels.
