New Book of Poetry Echoes Harlem Renaissance
Claremont, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2013 -- In 1951, Langston Hughes asked the world, “What happens to a dream deferred?” Today, NK Bwana hopes to stop dreams from exploding in his new book of poetry, “Divine Style Vs. Demonic Wordplay” (published by Trafford Publishing). His poetry, rhyme, music and verse explore political and social issues that are often voiceless or misrepresented similar to previous beat poets.
“I was called to write this book as a response to the disengaged youth who feel disenfranchised and virtually removed from literature, writing and living poetry,” says Bwana. “These are the individuals who are experiencing the betrayal and hopelessness that comes from remaining depreciated, marginalized, underutilized and generally invisible and unheard.”
Bwana’s writing comes from 15 years in the California public school system. Writing was an outlet for the children and young adults that were not part of the “politically correct handicapped culture,” as he describes it. He hopes his poetry will inspire readers in the way that Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Countee Cullen inspired him.
He says, “I want to be associated with them for having vision and a revolutionary mind to take unique circumstances and infuse sarcasm in creating magnificent, rich, complicated and entertaining work that teaches, reaches and engages audiences.”
