Enriched with commentary provided by the subjects, the collection of photographic portraits in Jacadra W. Young’s new book, “Apple Pie & White People: #AllAmerican” (published by Archway Publishing), supports the theme that America belongs to all Americans. The book is available for purchase at:

Taken all along the east coast, as far south as Myrtle Beach and as far north as Baltimore, Maryland, the images in the book serve as a tool to dismantle the stereotype associated with the phrase “All-American.” The subjects of the portraits were also interviewed and asked two questions: “What is the first (thing) to come to mind when you hear the phrase All-American? Would you use the phrase to describe yourself?”

“The current racial climate, and the fact that we as a country are constantly battling issues of inclusiveness,” led Young to create her debut book. She hopes to cause readers to consider what they perceive to be “All-American” and consider their own answer.
