New Book ‘The Night The Midwife Came To Call’ Shares Unique Home Birth Stories
Albuquerque, N.M. (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- Author Melinda Bybee spreads awareness on midwifery and home births with her memoir, “The Night The Midwife Came To Call” (published by Xlibris). A timely work, as the United Kingdom’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recently announced that home births and midwife-led centers were better for mothers and often as safe for babies. Contrastingly, in Alabama and other American states obstetricians or midwives are still barred from home births, even going so far as to prosecute them.
Home deliveries are the forte of midwives, and Bybee’s book gives readers a look at how babies are birthed by healthcare professionals operating away from the hospital, and the responsibilities and roles they bear as they bring new lives into the world. Bybee begins with how she realized her calling and how she became involved in the lives of people who preferred home-based birth – a gentle, natural birth the way they envisioned bringing their precious bundles of joy into their families’ lives.
She recounts the joys that come with working with mothers and fathers, their extended families and friends, though names have been changed to ensure privacy. Her book shares selected details from the most exciting births to keep readers interested and to remind herself of some of the most wonderful times in her life. Bybee retired in 2003, but the memories linger on in her mind and in her heart.
“The Night The Miwdife Came To Call” explains Bybee’s desire of wanting to deliver babies at a time when hospital births were the norm, and how she realized the dream.
