New Center for Obesity and Related Diseases Opens at East Orange General Hospital
East Orange, New Jersey (PRWEB) September 29, 2016 -- Saniea Majid, MD, FACS, FASMBS, the noted bariatric surgeon with devoted patients throughout Northern and Central New Jersey, is leading the new Metabolic and Bariatric Center at East Orange General Hospital.
At the new center, Dr. Majid provides compassionate and comprehensive care as she leads a multi-disciplinary team that includes a nurse practitioner, dietician, psychologist and fitness instructor. The center provides individualized plans for patients as they seek to overcome the disease of obesity and live healthier lives.
Dr. Majid and her team evaluate each person to find the best approach, whether medically supervised weight loss or bariatric surgery. All patients receive a range of nutritional and counseling support as well as fitness services.
Dr. Majid is a highly experienced, board-certified surgeon who received her General Surgical training at Brown University School of Medicine and New Jersey Medical School. She received her fellowship training in Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Robotics at University of California, San Diego.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Majid and her team are joining East Orange General Hospital,” said Otis Story, CEO of EOGH. “Dr. Majid is dedicated to helping people who are struggling with obesity and its related diseases, such as diabetes. She brings the highest level of care and also supports and inspires her patients on their journey to better health. She is a great doctor with a greater heart for the patients and families we serve at EOGH.”
Dr. Majid is a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
“At our center, we provide patients with the support they need to make long-lasting changes in how they live their lives,” she said. “We help them take control of their lives and fight the diseases of obesity and diabetes. I look at each person as an individual and create a plan unique for each patient.”
Patients at the center will begin by having a discussion with each member of the team. Patients will undergo medical and psychological evaluation to make sure the surgery is the best course of treatment for them. A team of experts provides necessary support before, during and after the surgery.
“We don’t think anyone should be alone when combating this challenging disease,” Dr. Majid said. “The causes of obesity are complex. They are physical, psychological, and cultural. So the methods to fight obesity must take all that into account as we support our patients on their journey to better health.”
The Metabolic and Bariatric Center is located at East Orange General Hospital at 300 Central Avenue in East Orange.
