Even though current data suggests that lupus is more common than cystic fibrosis, leukemia, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis combined and recent statistics from estimates that at least 5 million people worldwide, including 1.5 million Americans, are affected by some form of lupus, at present, the disease is unfamiliar to most and is widely misunderstood. About the Author
Karen Drennan-McEwan earned a Master of Arts (Hons) in English literature from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Her first career was in finance and she worked in the city of London as a stockbroker and asset manager. Her roles included head of research, divisional director of asset management and chief investment officer. She retrained as a counselor and psychotherapist qualifying with distinction, and is an accredited member of the National Counselling Society. She worked for two leading mental health charities, for a mental health development service, and with young people with complex disabilities before falling seriously ill in 2012 with a lupus flare.
