New Historical Novel Tells how Beautiful Woman Destroyed two Dynasties
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) June 02, 2017 -- “Song of Yuan-Yuan: Drama of 1644” (published by Archway Publishing) tells the story of Yuan-yuan, a beautiful woman who lived during an early, tumultuous period of the 17th century in China. The historical novel imagines the events behind how one beautiful woman launched 100,000 soldiers to bring down two dynasties.
“The book was written to open the eyes of people who do not know the colorful history of China,” says author Sidney Chan. “The story in this book is but a small segment of the long history of civilized China.”
Chan draws comparisons to Helen of Troy, who, like Yuan-yuan, leveraged her beauty for power. The novel chronicles how Yuan-yuan and a young general named Wu San-kuei proved to be instrumental in the uprising and revolt of the common people over an oppressive ruling class.
An excerpt from “Song of Yuan-Yuan”:
So Chung-chen closed his eyes and thrust the saber toward the princess. He succeeded in hacking off her left arm. As blood spewed from the princess’s torso, the emperor got down on his knees and embraced her. Frantically he lamented, “My daughter, forgive me! I will see you under that willow tree.”
