New Jersey Bayshore Announced Writing Contest to Promote Tourism
Highlands, NJ (PRWEB) May 15, 2014 -- To celebrate more than one million public views of original videos produced by local travel videographer John Schneider, JerseyBayshore.com announces a writing contest called “Jersey Bayshore Diary” in which the winner and runner-up will receive $200 and $100, respectively.
The New Jersey Bayshore -- situated along the Atlantic Ocean, Raritan Bay, Sandy Hook Bay, Shrewsbury River and Navesink River – comprises 14 towns and a national park, such as: Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Belford, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Keyport, Leonardo, Matawan, Middletown, Navesink, Port Monmouth, Sandy Hook and Union Beach.
According to Schneider, the Jersey Bayshore has been “undervalued by tourists for a very long time” and so he and a number of local communities, as well as county and state officials, are doing everything they can to increase awareness of the area.
Anyone can enter the “Jersey Bayshore Diary” contest by simply writing a description in the style of a diary entry about a personal experience during one day (24 hours) at the Jersey Bayshore. The purpose of the contest, according to the organizers, is to motivate potential tourists -- who have never experienced the area -- to visit.
Schneider said the “diary” contest is one of several contests planned to promote the Jersey Bayshore. Other upcoming contests will showcase original art, music and photographs.
“Folks in the Jersey Bayshore are creative and passionate about where they live and are always quick to help us promote it,” Schneider explained. “Many local residents are continually surprised by the number of folks from surrounding areas who have never been here. The diary contest gives everyone a chance to boast about what’s great about living, working and playing in this great area.”
The very best entries in the Jersey Bayshore Diary contest will be published in the official website of the New Jersey Bayshore (JerseyBayshore.com) while some writers will be invited to appear on the Comcast weekly television series, Jersey Bayshore Country, and on Jersey Bayshore Talk Radio. Some entries will also be published in the Atlantic Highlands Herald.
According to the rules, entrants are encouraged to be creative in their descriptions of what they did during a typical day at the Jersey Bayshore. They can write about one activity for an entire day -- like being in a park, on a boat or cycling on a trail -- or they can write about many activities. All entrants are encouraged to describe their feelings to make the diary entry more personal. The length of each "diary entry" must be no more than 750 words and all entries must be received by July 1, 2014. All of the contest rules are located at JerseyBayshore.com.
