New Jersey Launches Mobile App to Help Formerly Incarcerated Individuals with Path to Reentry
1Huddle and New Jersey Reentry Corporation partner to guide 3k+ returning citizens navigate return to society by providing access to resources and educational materials
NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- 1Huddle, a workforce tech company that upskills, trains and motivates employees through the use of science-backed, quick-burst mobile games, announced today its expanded partnership with New Jersey Reentry Corporation (NJRC), a non-profit agency that helps citizens returning from jail or prison gain employment in the state of New Jersey. The partnership will provide all formerly incarcerated New Jersey citizens with a step-by-step guide to navigate the resources and support needed during their first three months in society.
"1Huddle's content makes workforce training accessible to everyone, and we believe providing returning citizens with the tools they need for a seamless transition into our communities is the best use of our technology," said 1Huddle CEO Sam Caucci. "1Huddle and NJRC are dedicated to helping level the playing field for these citizens by using technology as a bridge to help navigate the complex system and return to work."
Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo said, "The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development is committed to seeing all unemployed residents return to work, including individuals reentering our communities following incarceration or addiction treatment. Now more than ever, our partner organizations need every tool available to direct people to employment opportunities while providing training to maximize employees' potential."
"With 3,000 people soon to be released from New Jersey prisons, we knew we had to do something to help," said Bob Menendez, U.S. Senator of New Jersey. "Navigating the first few months of reentry can be extremely overwhelming, which is why providing these citizens with the resources they need, right in the palm of their hands, is so critically important."
"1Huddle has been an extraordinary partner in promoting workforce training for our program participants. This new app will be exceptionally helpful for those persons returning after years in prison. The app is a step by step instruction for survival in those first few weeks after release. Reentry requires many steps: food, shelter, medical, identification, and legal services. The scope of services needed can be intimidating. The app sequences the needs and where the services can be obtained," said NJRC Chairman Jim McGreevey.
The 1Huddle app, which is available to download for free in the Google Play and Apple App stores, is intended to be used as a roadmap to reintegrate returning citizens back into society. The intuitive training program will guide the individuals through the process of reacclimating, as well as provide educational materials and support to help them understand how to gain access to local services, healthcare and mental health treatment, addiction resources, SNAP (formerly known as food stamps), necessary identification, workforce training, employment resources, legal benefits, support programs, and more.
This news comes on the heels of 1Huddle's strategic partnership with NJRC to help returning citizens prepare for job interviews, which was announced in August. New Jersey officials will be hosting a joint press conference on Friday, October 16 at 11:30 am ET to discuss the expanded partnership.
