New Research Shows Aspirin May Reduce the Growth of Mesothelioma
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- According to researchers at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, the anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin, along with other anti-inflammatory compounds, slowed the growth of cancer cells in mice with mesothelioma.
According to “Aspirin delays mesothelioma growth by inhibiting HMGB1-mediated tumor progression,” published June 11, 2015, scientists at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, along with colleagues, found that mice with mesothelioma cancer cells who were treated with aspirin and BoxA (an inhibitor of HMGB1) experienced a reduction in malignant mesothelioma growth.
Study authors noted that by giving the inhibitor in conjunction with aspirin, the gastrointestinal side effects of taking high doses of aspirin were avoided.
