A study conducted by Yale University concludes treating addiction in the ER increases the chance of patients getting help. Out of 329 people the university tested three ways to introduce addiction treatment. More than three-quarters of these patients enrolled in addiction treatment in 30 days. The group receiving counseling interventions and a referral has a 45 percent enrollment rate in 30 days. Those with the least amount of enrollment received only the referral and averaged 37 percent.
