SAN RAMON, Calif. (PRWEB) May 23, 2018 -- Courtroom Insight, Daubert Tracker and Expert Witness Profiler today released the results of a new survey which was developed to better understand commonly used expert witness research and retention techniques among litigation professionals.
The nationwide survey was conducted by email in late 2017 and early 2018. Thousands of litigation professionals, including attorneys, law librarians and paralegals, were invited to complete the survey, with 580 actual respondents.
Highlights of the survey include:
• Approaches used to locate an expert with specific expertise
• Usage of expert witness referral firms
• Impressions of expert witness directories
• Evaluation criteria and encountered difficulties when performing expert research
• Preferred sources of expert witness information
“Expert witness location and research are critical components of litigation. However, approaches vary widely both across and within organizations,” said Mark Torchiana, Co-Founder of Courtroom Insight. “I anticipate that firms will use this survey information to help establish thorough and consistent workflows for managing the use and research of experts.”
“The fact that nearly 60% of survey respondents reported being surprised by at least one aspect of an expert’s background or experience is alarming,” said Myles Levin, President of the Daubert Tracker and Expert Witness Profiler. “The importance of expert witness due diligence cannot be understated.”
