New version of Preservica brings digital archives to life
Washington, US and Oxford, UK (PRWEB UK) 6 May 2014 -- Preservica, part of the Tessella group, and a world leader in digital preservation technology, research and consulting, has launched a new version (v5.0) of its award-winning active preservation platform, offering a raft of new features including a new Universal Access function that enables organizations to showcase and share their archives, collections and records with the public through an easy to customize web interface. The web interface uses the latest responsive design to allow public and internal users to browse, discover, search, view, and download digital content in Preservica on multiple devices - PCs, Tablets and Smart Phones – without the need to have the native applications installed.

In addition to the new public access and discovery functions, Preservica v5.0 also includes a raft of other new features, such as storage policies to enable collections to be split between Amazon S3 and Amazon Glacier, a Copy Home feature to allow archives to be synchronized to a local server, Linked Data Registry to support live file format registry updates and a new look and feel including a management dashboard that gives an at a glance view of the size of a collection, how fast it is growing, the file formats used and how often the collection is accessed. This is on top of our recent new functions that provide synchronization with Calm catalogues and the automated bulk ingest of DSpace packages."
The new version 5.0 functions are available across Preservica’s Cloud Edition as well as its on premise offerings, Preservica Standard Edition and Preservica Enterprise Edition. All three Editions are built around the same Active Preservation technology and include a comprehensive suite of OAIS (Open Archival Information Systems) compliant workflows for ingest, management, storage, access and preservation of digital content. Preservica Enterprise Edition is also fully customizable to allow larger organizations to develop workflows that meet their individual archiving and preservation policies.
