New Workbook Helps Those Suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness, which according to the National Institute of Mental Health, affects approximately 1.6 percent of Americans age 18 or older (3.8 million).
In an effort to assist those suffering from BPD, Amy Tibbitts has written A DBT Skills Workbook: You Untangled - Practical Tools to Manage Your Emotions and Improve Your Life. This new book focuses on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills training so individuals can live a healthy life free of self-abusive behaviors.
Amy Tibbitts, the director of The Lilac Center, has provided a wide range of psychological services with a focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy for fifteen years. DBT, which differs from traditional therapy, teaches problem-solving techniques designed to bring a healthy balance to thoughts, feelings and actions.
BPD is a condition characterized by an intense fear of abandonment and emotional cycles and mood swings. Also, BPD includes impulsive and self-destructive behaviors, chaotic and unstable interpersonal relationships, and disturbances in identity.
You Untangled includes worksheets and exercises covering:
• What is Borderline Personality Disorder?
• Self-Assessment Tools for BPD
• Getting to Wise Mind
• Crisis Survival Skills
• How Emotions Works
• Secondary Emotions
• Spectrums of Emotions
• Emotional Tolerance
• Finding Your Purpose
• Maintaining Healthy Relationships
The Lilac Center completed extensive DBT research with Blue Cross Blue Shield members who utilize behavioral services and inpatient hospitalizations due to self-harm, substance abuse, eating disorders and suicidal thoughts.
“The results where overwhelming. Not only did individuals regain improved functioning in all areas of their life but also this therapy proved to be significant in cost savings for the health insurance company,” said Amy Tibbitts, LSCSW, and founder and director of the Lilac Center. “I am hopeful the online support will have even greater success in helping individuals use the therapy skills in a shorter amount of time.”
Additionally, the Lilac Center provides online support, located at mydbtgroup.com, and those who purchase the book receive free access to basic membership.
