PCMT at NYFA is celebrating its tenth New Works Series since the Summer of 2014 with two productions: #MARS and Luna Park.
New York, New York (PRWEB) February 21, 2019
The Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre(PCMT) at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) will present two readings of new musicals starting on Friday, February 22, 2019, as part of its 2019 Winter New Works Series. PCMT at NYFA is celebrating its tenth New Works Series since the Summer of 2014 with two productions: #MARS and Luna Park.
The series begins with #MARS, inspired by Mars One – a privately funded global initiative that promised to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars by the year 2025. In 2012, Mars One began an online global search for the first humans to set foot on Mars, with the intention of sending an initial crew of just four people. Over 200,000 people entered the application process, leading us to ponder – who would apply? And why?
#MARS is directed by Catie Davis (Associate Director of the upcoming Broadway Musical, Beetlejuice), with book and lyrics by Laura Kleinbaum and music by William Oosthuysen. The musical director is Joshua Zecher-Ross and assistant director is KT Thomas. #MARS will perform Friday, February 22 at the NYFA Theater.
The following day, the new musical Luna Park will chronicle the partnership of Skip Dundy and Fred Thompson; the true fathers of the modern themed amusement park. A full generation before Walt Disney, they created at Coney Island an attraction called Luna Park, a place designed to allow everyone to forget the pressures of modern industrial society and remember how to play.
Luna Park is directed by Glenn Girón, with the book by Gina Femia, music by Hyeyoung Kim, and lyrics by Michael Cooper. The original book is by Daniel F. Levin. The musical director is Anna Ebbesen and assistant director is Marina Vidal. Luna Park will perform Saturday, February, 23 at the NYFA Theater.
