NewFilmmakers LA Film Festival Releases Lineup for July 20th Screening Program
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 16, 2013 -- From programs filled with local & international short films, to a gorgeous feature set in the singer-songwriter music scene of East Los Angeles, Silverlake, and Hollywood, NewFilmmakers LA Film Festival offers an eclectic program suitable for a wide variety of cinema enthusiasts. From indie film darlings, to Emmy-award winners, and basketball stars, the July 20th event offers an opportunity to catch filmmakers Q&As post-screenings, chat with filmmakers, casts, and crews over cocktails in our red carpet Cinema Lounge, and enjoy tunes spun by an LA-based DJ in our outdoor patio lounge.
9 Full Moons (Dir. Tomer Almogar / USA) - Frankie and Lev, two radically different personalities, take a stab at a relationship. The couple struggle with their personal demons as they try to hold on to one another against insurmountable odds. Set against the country tinged, singer songwriter hipster music scene of East LA and Hollywood, the result is a chaotic, brooding love story.
Tomer Almogar makes his feature filmmaking directorial debut with 9 Full Moons, featuring an all star cast including Amy Seimetz (“The Killing”, Upstream Color), Bret Roberts (“Southland”, Nightstalker), Donal Logue (“Terriers”, CBGB), Emmy-award winner Pamela Adlon (“Californication”, “King of the Hill”), Twink Caplan (Clueless, Time and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie), Dale Dickey (C.O.G., “True Blood”), Harry Dean Stanton (The Last Stand, The Avengers), James Duval (American Idiots, Donnie Darko), Al Sapienza (“Person of Interest”, Godzilla), and former LA Lakers star Ron Artest (“Think Like a Man”).
Almogar and his short film, Spare, starring Andy Davoli (Knockaround Guys) and Al Sapienza, won the Platinum Award at Worldfest Houston in 2010 for Original Dramatic Independent Short. Originally from Israel, after army service and time spent traveling, Almogar headed to New York City where he studied filmmaking. Now residing in Los Angeles, Almogar jointly runs Urban Tales Productions with Gabrielle Almogar.
Gwyndor (Dir. David Crabtree / USA) - World Premiere. A tale about an estranged father who surprises his daughter on her 30th birthday.
As an editor, David Crabtree’s current credits include Lifetime’s The Client List (Lifetime) and USA Network’s Psych, of which he’s also directed several episodes. Past credits include ABC Family’s The Nine Lives of Chloe King, ABC’s NYPD Blue, and NBC’s Las Vegas. A graduate of Cal State Fullerton, Crabtree’s directorial debut, The Bedroom, won Best Experimental Drama at the Houston International Film Festival. His debut feature film, Broken Dreams, took Best Feature Film at The Other Venice Film Festival and the Audience Award at Film Fest of Colorado.
Gwyndor stars Jessica Borden (Dark Skies, "How I Met Your Mother"), K.C. Sterling ("NYPD Blue", "CSI: Miami"), Nathalie Antonia (Falling Overnight), Dixie Perkinson (“Wilfred”), Tara Redfield, Steve Fite, and Jim Dowd (The Bannen Way, “Body of Proof”) as Gwyndor.
Wracked (Dir. Victoria Mahoney / USA) - After serving a five year prison sentence, Sean returns to the poverty and mischief of Oildale. Giving us a forty-eight hour look inside the remains of a life interrupted.
Film director Victoria Mahoney’s directorial debut, Yelling to the Sky, blazed across the festival circuit with a stellar cast including Jason Clarke (White House Down, The Great Gatsby), Zoë Kravitz (After Earth, X-Men: First Class), Gabourey Sidibe (Seven Psychopaths, Precious), and Tim Blake Nelson (Lincoln, As I Lay Dying). With nominations for the Golden Berlin Bear award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Best Independent Film at the Black Reel Awards, Mahoney was featured in Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Films", IndieWire's "Filmmakers to Watch", and Elle Magazine’s "3 Filmmakers to Watch" in the Women In Hollywood issue.
Wracked stars Noah Mills (“2 Broke Girls”, Sex and the City 2), Beau Knapp (“Bones”, Super 8), Jeremy Ray Valdez (“Castle”, Constantine), Allison Byrnes, and Guillermo Jorge.
Suni Man (Dir. Hamish Mortland / New Zealand) - A touching, yet brutal coming-of-age story of a young Samoan man who must find the courage to choose between a stable life with his loving and traditional family, or an exciting yet treacherous life with his delinquent and dangerous cousin.
The Device (Dir. Conrad Lihilihi / USA) - A mysterious device sends two thieves on a horrific and unexplainable journey.
Motel Paradise (Dir. Alexander Ciavijo / USA) - A coming of age story about a girl name Paloma who works at a sleazy motel. To escape her harsh daily routines at work she daydreams about love. She meets a flamboyant character name Lucy at work. Lucy takes Paloma into a dark world of sexuality.
Alma de mi Alma (Dir. Jesus Celaya / USA) - A dying old man in Mexico asks the aid of a vengeful ghost on the night of the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration.
Adrift (Dir. Nadia Bedzhanova / Russia) - To quell their boredom, three Brooklyn teenagers play an asphyxiation game, in which their unconscious dreams reveal a loss of innocence as well as their relationships with one another.
Anniversario (Dir. Jeffrey De Chausse / USA & Argentina) - A woman goes to the beauty salon on her 45th wedding anniversary. Instead of celebrating with her husband that evening, she is invited to a dinner party by God.
