New After-Dark Ghost Boat Tour Haunts Wisconsin Dells Summer 2014, Journey into Haunted Canyon Begins May 23 and Runs Through Labor Day Weekend

(PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- Wisconsin Dells visitors can get their creep on all summer long with Dells Boat Tours all-new nighttime Ghost Boat adventure into Cold Water Canyon, a dark, mysterious cavern that winds deep into the woods off the east bank of the Wisconsin River. Taking off on the success of the Ghost Boat excursions that run during fall to Witches Gulch, the new scary after-dark Wisconsin Dells adventure features new scares and chills for summer. Ghost Boat: Journey into Haunted Canyon kicks off Friday, May 23 of Memorial Day weekend and runs nightly through Sunday, August 31 of Labor Day weekend.
“This is an all-new frightful experience that begins with an eerie boat ride at night on the dark rushing waters of the Wisconsin River. Scary tales will set the stage for what may lie ahead when you disembark and dare to walk into the shadowy recesses of the haunted canyon,” said Amanda McGowan, assistant manager of Dells Boat Tours.
The new summer Ghost Boat runs exclusively to Cold Water Canyon. The former Lost Voyage is no longer being offered. This is an all-new haunted boat tour and walking adventure; a pure scary expedition into the dark side of the Dells.
When darkness falls, the Ghost Boat leaves the safe harbor behind for an ominous 1½-hour adventure into the heart of the Dells. As the boat sets sail, passengers are treated to tales of lost spirits and ghostly apparitions that roam these parts. Stories will focus on the local legends and lore that have been shared through the generations. The murky waters are an eerie reminder of the deadly history of this once treacherous waterway. Many rivermen were swept away as they tried to navigate their rafts of lumber through the swift current.
The eerie stage is set as the Ghost Boat meanders into the dark, dank Cold Water Canyon. Ghost stories come alive as passengers disembark and dare to creep into the pitch-black gorge on foot. All along the path, darkness hugs you and there are scares at every turn. The haunted adventure leads you in on foot along the narrow canyon boardwalk, rocky cliffs on both sides, and an abyss of darkness below and around every corner. Find out what lies in wait.
“This is an intense experience,” added McGowan. “Darkness breeds fear. At times, you are literally walking into blackness; the scare factor is at full-tilt.”
Dells Boat Tours will continue to offer its annual Halloween adventure again next fall. Ghost Boat: Season of the Witch will continue to be staged at Witches Gulch – another canyon further upriver – running select weekends from mid-September through October. The fall Ghost Boat is its own unique experience to celebrate the Halloween season.
All Ghost Boat adventures embark from the Dells Boat Tours’ main landing dock, located at 11 Broadway in downtown Wisconsin Dells. Tours begin loading at 8:15 p.m. and depart at 8:30 p.m. Ghost Boat tickets are $23 for adults ages 12 and older. For children ages 11 and under, tickets are $17. However, the excursion is not recommended for children ages 10 and younger or those faint of heart. Discretion is left to parents and guardians for older children.
Reservations are suggested. Ghost Boat tickets can be purchased online at dellsghostboat.com. Once making the purchase, visitors are asked to call the Dells Boats office at (608) 254-8555 to reserve their spot on the date they choose. Reservations and ticket purchases can also be made by phone or in person at the two main ticket booths: 11 Broadway just over the bridge in downtown Wisconsin Dells and off of Exit 87 at the junction of U.S. Highway 12 (Wisconsin Dells Parkway) and state Highways 13 & 16. Several other ticket booths are located throughout the area.
