NewsWatch Featured “Whack-a-Word” on National Television
Washington, DC (PRWEB) August 23, 2013 -- “Whack-a-Word” was featured on NewsWatch as part of its popular segment, AppWatch, that takes a look at the latest and coolest mobile applications and mobile services on the market. Andrew Tropeano, host of AppWatch, shared with viewers how the app can help strengthen children’s reading and spelling skills at an early age.
In an attempt to improve the reading skills of America’s youth, many educators are turning to technology, specifically mobile devices and apps. Reading Horizons, a company that has been teaching children to read since 1984 through a unique phonetics system, created Whack-A-Word, a mobile application that allows students to practice the skills taught in the Reading Horizons software system.
When Whack-A-Word is turned on, children find themselves in a garden and are challenged to spell a word. To spell it, the user must whack moles that pop up with the correct letter. The game has over 300 words that are spread out across three different levels: easy, medium, and hard. Children will find the app fun, educational, and easy to use. Whack-A-Word reinforces Reading Horizons' simplified but award-winning version of phonetic rules that are different from the traditional industry standard.
Whack-A-Word is available for $0.99 on the iPad. To learn more about the game or the Reading Horizons software for spelling, reading, and pronunciation, head to http://www.readinghorizons.com/apps/.
