Nextremity Solutions, Inc. Sees Success with Novel Cut Guide for Lapidus Correction
The Lapidus Cut Guide cutting slots are designed to reduce the amount of resection needed to prepare the joint area by providing surgeons with the flexibility to remove 3-6mm of bone and cartilage.
WARSAW, Ind., Oct. 22, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Nextremity Solutions, Inc., a strategic commercialization organization with a focus on the extremity musculoskeletal space, located in "The Orthopedic Capital of the World," Warsaw, Ind., recently completed the first several cases using their newly launched Lapidus Cut Guide.
The Nextremity Solutions Lapidus Cut Guide is designed to provide anatomically intuitive resection of the first tarsometatarsal joint in preparation for a Lapidus procedure.
Brett Sachs, DPM, FACFAS of Wheat Ridge, Colorado stated, "The new Lapidus Cut Guide allows the surgeon to choose a variety of precise cutting angles to match the patient's natural anatomy. It also provides limited joint resection to minimize shortening of the metatarsal."
The Lapidus Cut Guide cutting slots are designed to reduce the amount of resection needed to prepare the joint area by providing surgeons with the flexibility to remove 3-6mm of bone and cartilage. The Lapidus Cut Guide also provides surgeons with a single instrument that allows for unconstrained angle correction based on the individual patient anatomy.
"The Lapidus procedure has seen rapidly increasing surgical options for surgeons treating patients with varying degrees of bunion deformities. This new Lapidus Cut Guide will increase a surgeon's confidence in making accurate bone cuts in preparation for performing a Lapidus procedure with various systems in the marketplace, including the InCore Lapidus Correction System," noted Michael Lee, DPM from Des Moines, Iowa.
"I began using the InCore Lapidus System because I preferred the orientation of the compression that is generated by the unique instrumentation while also eliminating patient concerns related to prominent hardware irritation. With the introduction of the new Lapidus Cut Guide from Nextremity Solutions, making parallel cuts on both the medial cuneiform and first metatarsal base will allow reproducible reduction in the inter-metatarsal angle that is the goal in every bunion surgery regardless of the deformity," commented Keith Tyson, DPM of Hanover, Pennsylvania.
"The new Lapidus Cut Guide just made the Lapidus procedure easy and predictable. It provides confidence in making accurate cuts on both sides of the joint and produced perfect cuts while removing very little bone to prevent shortening of the first ray (metatarsal). It was very easy to use the first time and resulted in great correction," added Thomas Rappette, DPM of Chicago, Illinois.
The Lapidus Cut Guide is the first technology released by Nextremity Solutions that was entirely manufactured by its manufacturing arm, Lakeland Technology. Lakeland Technology was acquired by Nextremity Solutions, Inc. in March of 2020. Through this relationship with Lakeland Technology, Nextremity Solutions was able to manufacture the Lapidus Cut Guide in a much shorter time frame than was experienced with previous manufacturers.
The patent-pending Lapidus Cut Guide is currently in a limited commercial launch and is exclusively distributed by Nextremity Solutions.
