BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NextVR, the leader in broadcasting live events in virtual reality, today announced broad support for the emerging ecosystem of 5G enabled devices and XR viewers. At the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC19™), NextVR in partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc will demonstrate Fearless, a first-of-its-kind virtual reality (VR) stereoscopic, ultra-high resolution, video experience featuring Six Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) streaming over 5G, in the Qualcomm booth.
The Fearless experience, produced by NextVR for Qualcomm, is designed to play on a 5G enabled handset powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform and a connected XR viewer. Fearless follows three professional cliff divers as they jump from a death-defying 85 feet high secret cliff near Koko Head on the Oahu island, Hawaii. Demo participants will have the freedom to move around within the experience and the ability to step to the edge of the cliff face and look down at the ocean below. To create Fearless, NextVR used a state-of-the-art, proprietary camera that generates the 6DoF volume in ultra-high resolution.
"The Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with 5G will enable XR viewers to transform how the world connects and communicates," said Patrick Costello, Senior Director, Business Development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "By leveraging 5G to offer premium immersive experiences, NextVR is evolving their content platform to deliver realistic immersive experiences for consumers with XR viewers."
Also in the Qualcomm booth, NextVR will demonstrate a prototype of its new augmented reality (AR) portal on the nReal Light, the first lightweight ready-to-wear mixed reality (MR) glasses, connected to a 5G enabled handset with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform. The demo will showcase, for the first time, NextVR's contextual immersion user-experience. Demo participants are able to view their surrounding real-world environment but also see in front of them a stereoscopic portal in space which is an opening into the world of the content experience (e.g. a basketball court or concert venue). To enter the portal for a fully immersive VR experience the user may either approach the portal or use the controller to summon the portal toward them.
"NextVR is completely committed to supporting 5G and the new product category of AR and VR devices known as XR viewers. The increased resolution, high bandwidth, and streamlined form-factor of XR viewers connected to 5G handsets allow us to deliver an ultra-realistic immersive experience." said David Cole, NextVR CEO.
