Mark McKendry, Vice President of North American Intermodal at NFI, will be participating in a panel at the 2019 JOC Inland Distribution Conference entitled, “Intermodal Rail II: Service Expectations and Reality.” The session will take place on October 22, 2019 in Chicago, Ill. and will offer insight into expectations shippers should set with their rail partners in the coming year.

In addition to discussing service expectations among shippers, McKendry and other industry experts will also explore the viability of precision scheduled railroading, and whether it can provide greater consistency and reliability. Further, the panelists will offer their opinions as to what should happen in the event of a disruption in service, and whether shippers should be penalized due to elements out of their control such as inclement weather, chassis shortages, volume surges, and other factors.

“North American railroads have faced a variety of challenges this past year, like structural changes and disruption stemming from international trade uncertainty,” said McKendry. “Additionally, consumer purchasing behaviors and evolving demands have required the industry to adapt basic railroad management and operational principles. Having long-standing and reliable relationships with rail partners is key to navigating such challenges, which is where a 3PL can provide stability and peace of mind for shippers that their products will arrive safely and on-time.”
