Nike Basketball Camp Director Inducted into Marin Athletic Hall of Fame
Mike Fulton, Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at the San Domenico School in San Anselmo, CA, has been inducted into the 2019 Marin Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame.
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Oct. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Coaching since he was in seventh grade and at San Domenico since 2005, this honor is certainly very well-deserved. In addition to Mike Fulton's current tenure at San Domenico, he has coached girls basketball at Terra Linda High School, The Branson School, and also led the College of Marin Women's Basketball program to the state playoffs on six out of his seven years as head coach.
Coach Fulton and Coach Jeff Skaggs, Athletic Director at the San Domenico School, together founded and direct the San Domenico School Basketball Camp, which hit its 20th year of operation in 2019. Fulton has dedicated his life to helping youth in his community improve their basketball skills and achieve success.
"I've been around a lot of coaches from (longtime Stanford coach) Tara VanDerveer to everyone else — there's no one I've seen who teaches the game and works fundamentals in practice like Mike. Mike teaches you how to play the game, but he does it in such a way — he loves his players and he coaches that way and that's returned in the way they play for him." said Scott Davis, former Head Women's Basketball Coach at College of Marin.
Since then, Fulton has effectively coached the girls varsity basketball team at San Domenico School to achieve a 70-82 overall record in a four-year span. He also helped build the boys program at the once all-girls San Domenico School and led the boys varsity team to the league championship in their first year.
Fulton attributes this success to the people who were with him along the way, "I'm sharing it with a lot of people that were around at those different venues — Terra Linda, Branson and San Domenico. My speech is going to be honoring the people that were part of those great programs."
Fulton and staff will be back this summer to host the 21st summer of the Nike Basketball Camp at San Domenico School. After a successful summer in 2019, campers are excited to return and work with the newest addition the Marin Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame.
