When Grunge Ruled The World: Nirvana Tribute Takes Over The Sin City Theatre’s Rock ‘N Roll Compendium
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) August 19, 2014 -- The Sin City Theatre’s Rock ‘N Roll Compendium invites you to travel back to a time when Grunge ruled the world and a three piece band from Seattle changed the course of music history forever. Compendium of Nirvana audiences will have a chance to experience the band’s most memorable moments, in an action packed show, celebrating the career and legacy of legendary Alternative band, Nirvana, as well as the antics of their late front man, Kurt Cobain, who was considered by many to be the voice of Generation X.
In September 1991, Nirvana’s first major label album, Nevermind, was released and the band’s dark and brooding Smells Like Teen Spirit video was in heavy rotation on MTV. To the surprise of many, Nirvana was adored by critics and fans alike. In January 1992, Nirvana ousted Michael Jackson from the Number One spot on the Billboard Charts, going on to sell over 30 million copies of this album worldwide, far surpassing everyone’s expectations. Seattle Grunge/Alternative music was now officially mainstream, with Nirvana leading the pack of torn, acid washed denim and flannel shirt wearing fans around the globe.
Compendium of Nirvana features a live show, by renowned tribute band Smells Like Nirvana, that takes fans on a musical journey through the band’s illustrious, albeit brief career, with popular songs like Come As you Are, Lithium, In Bloom, Heart Shaped Box, All Apologies and of course 90’s slacker anthem, Smells Like Teen Spirit. Expect to see rare, historical Nirvana videos and also relive special events that captured the world’s attention: Cobain’s infamous stage entrance for the band’s final UK concert at the 1992 Reading Festival; Nirvana’s notorious 1992 MTV Video Music Awards appearance; Nirvana’s 1993 haunting funeral-like MTV Unplugged in New York performance.
Along with John Padon, the producer of Sin City Comedy & Burlesque, Pete Housley takes the reigns as co-producer and had this to say about Compendium, "The concept of our Rock ‘N Roll Compendium summer series has been to focus on bands with a rich discography. Rock ‘N Roll Compendium: a tribute to the Myth & Music of Nirvana at The Sin City Theatre, located inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Mezz, begins a limited run on Thursday, August 21st through Saturday, September 27th. Additional tributes and band residencies soon to be announced.
