Acerta Analytics announces the completion of a specialized platform of predictive machine learning models developed with Nissan, Japan. The new failure prediction analytics solution detects anomalies in vehicle data to predict potential component failures and estimate remaining distance the vehicle can travel before a warning is needed.
KITCHENER, Ontario, March 8, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Acerta Analytics – provider of manufacturing technology and Industry 4.0 solutions for the automotive industry – is pleased to announce the completion of a specialized platform of predictive machine learning models developed with Nissan, Japan. The project was funded in part through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) led by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI).
Acerta's custom analytics solution detects subtle anomalies in vehicle data to predict a potential failure within an engine component. Additionally, it estimates the remaining distance that the vehicle can travel before it needs to warn the driver.
"Nissan wanted a predictive analytics solution that would contribute to fewer unexpected repairs and ultimately help their customers save money," said Greta Cutulenco, CEO at Acerta.
Nissan elected to start research into the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) to predict engine failures and initially focused on fuel injection failures because fuel injectors are essential parts in vehicles with internal combustion engines. Without AI, failures are extremely difficult to detect ahead of time.
Nissan and Acerta shared the innovative technology at a demonstration in Waterloo on February 23, 2023. Watch this Nissan and Acerta Failure Prediction Analytics Demonstration Day video to see some highlights from the event.
"Nissan recognizes the strength in Ontario's thriving automotive ecosystem combined with expertise in AI and manufacturing. We worked with Acerta to accelerate the development of this new technology for our vehicles to bring future tangible benefits to our customers, and we're excited to continue our partnership," said Kazuhiro Doi, Nissan corporate vice president and Alliance Global VP, Research Division. He visited from Japan to attend the demo event.
Honourable Victor Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, announced the collaboration at the ribbon-cutting for the Electric City OVIN Corner at the 2023 Canadian International AutoShow on February 16.
The $1.36M CAD project was made possible in part with support from the Government of Ontario through the OVIN R&D Partnership Fund's C/AV & Smart Mobility program, led by OCI. The project received $344,000 and a further $1.016M in industry contributions.
"OCI is helping to shape the future of automotive in Ontario and to drive the adoption and deployment of new technologies on our roads and in our vehicles. The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network supports innovative companies like Acerta to partner with global leaders like Nissan so we can enable safer, cleaner, and more accessible transportation in our province," said Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN.
