(Nobles), announced today its innovative VIPER-19 gun mount has successfully completed qualification testing with the U.S. Army. The VIPER-19 mounting system has been designed specifically to accommodate the GAU-19/B Gatling gun, for manned employment from land vehicles, and is the only qualified mount of its kind.
Nobles’ family of VIPER mounts incorporates the Nobles’ patented Gun Mount Braking System™ (GMBS™) which utilizes hydraulically actuated disc brakes to stabilize fires and assist with overall control of heavy machine guns, medium caliber cannons and now the GAU-19 Gatling gun. The GMBS™ provides for manned operation of the weapon by allowing the gunner to manage the weight during traverse and elevation in free gun mode, then quickly engage the brake for maximum effects on target, increasing lethality and reducing the risk of collateral damage. The brake is easily applied by depressing a lever, located near the trigger housing assembly, without ever requiring the gunner to remove his fingers from the trigger.
The VIPER-19 was developed at the request of operators from U.S. special operation forces after their exposure to the VIPER Lite, the standard crew-served weapons mount of the VIPER line, and an engineered alternative to the legacy MK-93 mount. The VIPER Lite will be on display at AUSA 2014 at Nobles’ stand #3638, 13-15 October, 2014.
