CHICAGO, Sept. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dedicated to helping women in emergency shelter situations facing domestic violence, human trafficking, or homelessness, the Chicagoland-based nonprofit Love Purse will present its Inaugural Gala from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. at Wilder Mansion, 211 S. Prospect in Elmhurst, Illinois.
The event's theme," There's No Place Like Home," will take guests through to the Land of Oz as they follow the yellow brick road. The evening will feature entertainment, signature "Pursetini" cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a premier silent auction.
Former Chicago Bear football player Dennis McKinnon is the evening's keynote speaker. McKinnon also played professional football for two other teams: the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. He is the founder and CEO of Bearly Active Productions Inc, an organization connecting corporations and charitable organizations with professionals in the sporting world.
"This inaugural gala is our way of thanking our donors, sponsors and most of all, our angel ambassadors who have worked tirelessly to make this mission what it is today," said Love Purse Founder Maria Castro. "All the gala money raised will go toward purchasing more purses and toiletries in our purse gifting program to help so many more shelters that continue to reach out to us for donations."
Castro explained that the program collects brand new purses and fills them with essential toiletries such as toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and toothbrushes among other items. Lastly, the purses also include personal handwritten notes saying that these women matter, people are praying for them, and their difficult situations will pass.
Castro explained for these women, these purses and items are chances to embark on fresh and positive beginnings in their lives.
"A woman in a shelter deserves to start anew and to have a new purse filled with all brand new full-size toiletries along with notes of inspiration," she said. "These notes are little encouragements from people that they never met but thought enough about them to lift their spirits in a critical time in their lives."
