WASHINGTON, June 1, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The much-anticipated Giant National Capital BBQ Battle is back for its 31st year, igniting the summer season in our nation's capital with smoky goodness, sizzling grills, and mouthwatering flavors. Presented by Giant Food, this year's event promises to be bigger, bolder, and even more delicious than ever before. Mark your calendars for June 24 & 25 and get ready to head down to historic Pennsylvania Avenue to indulge in an unforgettable celebration of BBQ excellence.
Proclaimed the Official National BBQ Championship on the floor of Congress and listed in the Congressional Record, this unique and multi-faceted BBQ festival celebrates the art and culture of barbecue by presenting great food, music and entertainment for all. Attendees will witness some of America's top BBQ chefs from across the country competing in a high stakes National BBQ Championship sanctioned by the world-famous Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS.)
"We take our barbecue certification seriously," says Carolyn Wells, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Kansas City Barbeque Society. "Judges attend a certified BBQ class to learn the rules and scoring system, ensuring a common judging standard and scale to apply across all BBQ competitions. We currently have 13,000 active judges and about 100 of them will be at the 2023 Giant BBQ Battle in DC on June 24th and 25th." Primary contest judging categories in the KCBS contest include chicken, beef, and pork. Teams will compete in the PA Pork Championship, Smokin' with Smithfield, Perdue Sizzlin' Chicken, PA Beef Steak Cookoff as well as Turkey Smoke, the Beyond Meat BBQ Contest and even a Junior Chef Competition for young chefs sponsored by Kingsford.
In addition to the KCBS contests, attendees can taste and judge for themselves in the USO Military Chef Cook-off, inspired by the USO's partnership with Giant. This competition pits top chefs from various branches of the military against each other in a friendly and deliciously inviting contest based on people's choice voting. There's more competition excitement with Nathan's World Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on the Pepsi Stronger Together Stage.
Beyond the sizzling contests, attendees can explore the festival grounds filled with tantalizing aromas and flavors. From finger-licking ribs to tender pulled pork, smoky chicken and all the sides, restaurants from DC and around the country will be offering a wide array of BBQ styles to satisfy every palate. This year's vendors include DCity Smokehouse, Hill Country BBQ, Swahili Village, District Bites & Smokecraft Modern Barbecue, along with North Carolina Ribs on Wheels, The Tender Rib, Dyvine BBQ and more.
