North Shore Author Explores Workplace Sex Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation In New Book
Buffalo Grove, Illinois (PRWEB) August 20, 2019 -- For first-time author Judy Foley, the groundbreaking societal movements of "Me Too" and "Times Up" brought to light the pervasive instances of sexual harassment and discrimination done in well-known workplaces. Those stories rose to national prominence though there are many similar situations that received no coverage and have dramatically changed people’s lives.
In her new book "Retaliation At The Highest Level: Why CEO's, Board of Directors, and HR Need To Change The Culture (Tools Included)," Foley, a Buffalo Grove, Illinois resident and a corporate culture expert, examines sex discrimination, harassment and retaliation working in supply chain/sourcing and operations and shares her own personal experiences.
Additionally, she provides professional perspectives with legal, psychological and trauma experts, an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment with statistics, best practices, and considerations for forward thinking companies and integrity cultures to implement best practices.
“These issues cannot be discarded or hidden by companies as they have done in the past,” said Foley, the founder of The Culture of Trust, a company focused on healing corporate culture. “They will no longer go away and it remains the responsibility of each company to create and sustain a culture not based upon the preferences of a few, but the inclusion of all to support and ever increasing diversity in our workforce. This is no longer a secondary issue to be considered, but rather a primary objective of corporations and businesses that desire to hire the best and brightest into their organization.”
Because of recent reports on the alleged misdeeds of celebrities, politicians, clergy, school personnel, and C-suite executives, sexual harassment and discrimination are no longer hidden in the shadows of cubicles and closed office doors. To help men and women affected by these experiences and sustain their courage in sharing their stories, Foley includes valuable lessons learned such as seeking legal counsel to determine the viability of a case, talking with a counselor and considering meditation and a silent retreat after leaving a negative workplace situation.
"My story could be anybody's story, including your story,” Foley said. “Each of us is a leader to someone whether it’s a child, a work associate, or the head of a large corporation leading thousands of employees. We have the power to be the difference for our sons and daughters. The only way to make a difference is by nurturing a new "culture of trust" and not allowing these circumstances to be accepted by leadership, CEO’s, boards of directors and leaders in human resources.“
Foley is already working on her second book called “Culture of Trust” debuting in the summer of 2020. Her focus will be on interviewing top CEOs/C-level for their expertise on creating atmospheres of trust as well as developing best cultures and values in their companies. She is also updating her “Culture of Trust” website which will outline her services in speaking, training, consultation and executive coaching as well as presenting best practices, case studies and facts. For example, Foley cites a Harvard Business Review study comparing people working at low-trust companies to those who work at high-trust companies.
"This study found that those working at high-trust companies report 74% have less stress and 50% have higher productivity," she said. "I believe that trust is essential to any organization being successful and achieving exceptional results," she said.
