MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 8, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the trade association representing the Northern Virginia technology community, today announced a new executive leadership position of chief growth officer, naming Steve Upton into this role. Upton will lead NVTC's growth strategy as part of its next phase of evolution, spearheading the organization's member-centric strategy, including the growth of its membership base, the support of existing members, and the expansion of partnerships and sponsorships.
Upton, a Virginia native, joins NVTC from RR Donnelley where he served on their national sales team and managed key relationships with Fortune 1000 companies such as Cornerstone Brands and WestRock. Fully embracing RR Donnelley's digital capabilities, Upton excelled at promoting its print-to-digital technology. Prior to that, Upton was the Business Development Director for AARP Services. While at AARP Services, Upton helped secure new business relationships with large companies such as Bloomin' Brands, AT&T, Cancer Treatment Centers and Schwanns. During his tenure, he also secured a multi-million-dollar partnership with Chevrolet.
Prior to AARP Services, Upton worked at USA TODAY as Director of Consumer Sales and Marketing. While there he oversaw every aspect of the consumer experience and was responsible for the growth in USA TODAY's subscription circulation and revenue. In addition, he oversaw key business relationships with top consumer companies such as American Express, Best Buy and American Airlines.

Upton's vision for 2021 is to be the bridge between NVTC and its membership. Upton holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech). He currently serves on the board of the GCAF of Virginia Tech and was previously President of the Northern Virginia Hokie Club. Upton is the recipient of the Michael W. Carroll Award for his volunteer fundraising efforts and is a Virginia Tech UT Prosim Society Member.
