WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), the nation's premier collegiate honor society for first-and-second year college students, today announced the launch of 14 new scholarships, including the HBCU Student of the Year-Changemaker Award and the LatinX Student of the Year-Changemaker Award. The scholarships will be made possible by the Society's partnership with GEICO, the second largest auto insurer in the U.S. Recipients will receive $2,500 - $10,000 in scholarships.
"We hear from a lot of students nationwide who are struggling, especially our high-achieving members from underserved and diverse backgrounds," said Scott Mobley, executive director of NSCS. "Because of our partnership with GEICO we are able to help more NSCS members overcome the burden of student debt."
"GEICO has a longstanding commitment to improving communities, and we are proud to partner with NSCS to, once again, achieve that goal by recognizing high-achieving minority students. NSCS does an outstanding job of supporting collegiate scholars by helping them work toward their goals in college and beyond, so it is a natural fit for us to partner with them. It is our hope that through these NSCS scholarships, we can empower minority students to pursue their dreams," said GEICO Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Carl A. Tims.
Requirements to apply include having a 3.0 GPA or higher, being an NSCS member and meeting the conditions of each scholarship. Applicants must also answer essay questions specific to each award.
"Through our ongoing partnership with GEICO, we hope to shift the focus of our scholars away from thinking about how they are going to afford their education, to how they can continue to be leaders in and out of the classroom."
