Focusing on intelligence, learning and creativity, Alison Willis created her book with the intention of helping parents nurture creative thinking and problem solving in their children. Since learning is a quality Willis says we develop every day throughout our entire lives, parents want to feel confident they are giving their children all the tools necessary to learn on their own as they grow older.

“My observation of a high level of parental anxiety that exists concerning children’s learning and the development of intelligence were a driving force for writing this book. My professional background and research tells me that this [anxiety] is not only unnecessary, but could potentially be counter productive in the development of intelligence in children,” said Willis.
“I felt I had something to say about children’s learning and intelligence. I wanted to talk about the topic in a short, concise and condensed fashion, as busy parents want the gold handed to them, they haven’t got time to dig for it,” Willis added.
Willis also included her travels with her family in “Nurturing Intelligence” for research she conducted in Northern Uganda for her Ph.D. thesis that then prompted her decision to write the book. Using the coined term “simplexity”, Willis gives simple explanations on learning theory and touches on technology usage for children, self-esteem and even exercise.
