NYC Councilmember Chaim Deutsch Provides Jericho Project with $315,000 to Support Veterans Initiative

NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Tori Lyon, CEO of Jericho Project, today announced that Councilmember Chaim Deutsch (D-48), Chairperson of the New York City Council's Veterans Committee, has approved $315,000 in funding for Jericho's vital employment and housing services for formerly homeless and at-risk veterans. The funding is a part of the City's 2020 Veteran's Initiative which totals $2.87 million—providing discretionary funds to organizations offering services, support, and opportunities for NYC veterans and families.

An additional $5,000 was pledged by Councilmember Alicka Ampry-Samuel (D-41) to support Jericho Project Veterans Initiative.

"Thanks to the steadfast support of Councilmembers Deutsch and Ampry-Samuel, Jericho Project can deliver services to prevent homelessness among our veterans and enable those who have served our nation to move forward in their civilian lives with dignity," stated Lyon, who serves on the Executive Committee for the New York City Coalition on the Continuum of Care Veterans Task Force.

Jericho Project is a 36-year-old nonprofit ending homelessness at its roots, serving 2,500 adults and families, including veterans and young adults, with holistic services including housing, employment, wellness and family stability.

Jericho Project's Veterans Initiative, begun in 2006, provides housing and supportive services for 700 veterans of all eras, enabling them to live civilian lives with dignity. Jericho's three state-of-the-art Veterans Residences in the Bronx provide the security of permanent supportive housing, on-site social and employment services, community rooms, gardens, fitness centers and computer centers. Additionally Jericho offers employment, family and rapid-rehousing services to veterans across the city.
