NYX Bikes Announces First Carbon Fiber E-Bike Frame Kit

The two-year long prototyping phase gave fruit to a universally compatible carbon frame, a compatibility that was illustrated by exceeding speeds of 113 km/h using various motorcycle and bike components during testings. When explaining the universal conversion process, Cédrick Lévesque-Baker stated, ''The frame was meant to be the corner stone of any E-Bike project. Our approach focused on a three steps assembly procedure and the frame had to adapt itself to any components while still allowing as much configurations as possible.'' Among the most important compatibility features, the frame can fit up to 26'' wheel size and 160 to 203mm disc brake covering a large spectrum of bicycles. The frame is also engineered to house 'off-the-shelves' headsets for the most uncommon parts.
Other breakthroughs include a massive 16L battery space, weld-free for guaranteed alignment, operational without electricity and weight of 6.1kg (13.5lbs). With up to 8 possible geometries, the frame is the ideal development platform for any E-Bike; from mountain to city-scape types.
The frame is a first-of-its-kind in terms of fabrication and manufacturing. The techniques used to bring the carbon cloth in a complex, light and strong mechanical arrangement is a breakthrough in the matter. Infusion molding techniques were developed using a carefully measured balance between epoxy resin and fiber. Kevlar and fiber glass layers were also added in highly solicited areas to prevail against wear.
Speaking about the milestone reached during molding techniques analysis, Éloi Fugère said, ''The challenge was not only to exploit at their fullest the mechanical properties of the materials such as the flexibility of the carbon fiber and the rigidity of epoxy. It was also to place the uncut tissue into an aesthetic manner whilst preserving the properties of each fiber.''
