(PRWEB) September 21, 2017 -- Oaks Christian School launched a two-prong effort to assist victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Jose in the Atlantic basin. In recent days, the school has partnered with the Sylmar-based Children's Hunger Fund to collect nonperishable food items, and hygiene care packs which were boxed and transported by the CHF to the stricken areas.
At the first home football game, fans were granted free admission for bringing toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, bar soap, liquid soap, deodorant, shaving supplies, personal care products, and other toiletries.
The effort resulted in over 800 boxes, filled to the brim and ready to be shipped across the country. Students helped collect items at the football game as well as get the boxes ready for transport. OCS students and families continue to collect food and care packages in an ongoing relief effort with CHF.
"I think it's important for students to always be aware of people in need. It's easy to turn a blind eye to what doesn't affect us directly. My desire is for students to walk away with an awareness for noticing the unnoticed," said World Missions and Community Service Director Audie Diggs.
