COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Ohio Cancer Research (OCR) – an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to the cure and prevention of the many forms of cancer through aggressive basic seed money research – is pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Boggess as executive director.
Thomas Lamb, former OCR executive director, announced his retirement from the organization this month. Bill Boggess previously served as OCR's associate executive director from 2014 until April 1, 2019 when he was officially named executive director by OCR's board of trustees.
A Columbus, Ohio native, Boggess brings several years of nonprofit leadership and volunteering to the position as well as years of cultivated relationships with community partners, corporate and individual donors, and regional media outlets. Prior to joining OCR in 2001, Boggess was a reporter for a number of Central Ohio newspapers and an advertising director at the Columbus Guardian and CM Media. He received his bachelor's degree in journalism from The Ohio State University.

Nearly $8 million in seed money has been provided to cancer researchers by Ohio Cancer Research, which has, in turn, generated more than $245 million in new money from other sources to continue basic cancer research on projects initially funded by OCR.
Individual cancer researchers have been or are being funded by Ohio Cancer Research at Case Western Reserve University, The Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals of Cleveland, MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, The Ohio State University, Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Ohio University, University of Dayton, Wright State University, and the former Hipple Cancer Research Center in Dayton.
