Friends and neighbors wished Old South Wood staff well in this new treated lumber business.
SUMMERTOWN, Tenn., Oct. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- About 75 people packed into the office of Old South Wood in Summertown Wednesday morning to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new business in Lawrence County in Middle Tennessee.
Old South Wood was started earlier this year by Eric Stoll. His previous career had been spent at nearby Summertown Metals, which was started by his father, John.
A number of friends and neighbors were there to wish Stoll and the Old South Wood staff well in this new treated lumber business.
"Thank you so much for the support over the past year," Stoll told the crowd. "It's tremendous to have. It was a little over a year ago I said goodbye to Summertown Metals and began work here with not much more than a field of dirt."
Stoll said he was grateful for those who've helped Old South Wood get this far.
"I've had a great team; some of them came with me from Summertown Metals, and I say they're all quarterback material," Stoll said, adding in a reference to those who may be past their quarterback prime, as everyone laughed. "We have a lot of customers here this morning, too, and it's impossible to do this without customers."
Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce President Ryan Egly said Stoll is already a leader in the community who does a lot to help others. He talked about how he and others have been impressed, as they've watched the business grow on the highway this last year.
"We've all seen the investment here as we drive by on our commute, and we've marveled at how fast it's happened," Egly said. "That's a testament to how hard Eric and everyone on his team has worked, and we're glad to see that investment in Summertown and Lawrence County."
County Executive David Morgan had similar comments about the company's growth.
"It's been exciting to see this come up out of the ground as I've traveled up and down this highway," Morgan said. "It's a $5 million investment that will eventually lead to 35-plus jobs, and that's great.
"Tennessee leads the country in economic development, and Summertown is seeing a lot of the growth that's happening across the state. It's blowing up right now, and we're glad to see it."
Stoll thanked his family for their patience as he worked to get Old South Wood off the ground.
"There have been a lot of nights and weekends when my wife has had to handle things without me there, as I'm on the road talking with customers and vendors," Stoll said. "Hopefully we're near a point where balance will return in life, but I'm grateful to her and the kids for hanging in there."
