Bellucci Premium, a Producer of Tuscan Olive Oil, Comments on a Recent Study Providing Evidence Suggesting the Mediterranean Diet Protects Individuals from Diabetes
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- Bellucci Premium responds to a recent article detailing how a low carbohydrate Mediterranean diet can help protect against diabetes.
According to an August 26th article published by The Olive Oil Times titled “Modified Mediterranean Diet May Protect from Diabetes,” research from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) shows that there is a correlation between the Mediterranean diet and preventing diabetes.
EPIC is a study that looks at the “relationships between diet, nutritional status, lifestyle and environmental factors and the incidence of cancer and other chronic diseases, with participants in over 10 European countries,” according the article. Researchers from Canada, United States, Italy and Greece have found that the Mediterranean diet reduces the chance of having diabetes.
The study included 22,000 Greek participants, who were studied for around 11 years. “Scientists measured adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the glycemic load,” reported the article. The glycemic load refers to the amount of carbohydrates found in food.
The results showed that the Mediterranean diet alone can help reduce the incidence of diabetes. When adapted to have a low glycemic load, the diet was found to be 20% more effective. The article explained how a low glycemic level would not be difficult to attain when eating a Mediterranean diet since the diet is primarily made up of olive oil, fruit and vegetables.
Natalie Sexenian, marketing manager for Tuscan olive oil producer Bellucci Premium, says that the Mediterranean diet is by far one of the best options to help increase overall health and wellness. “It’s nice to see advocacy for the Mediterranean diet,” she says. “Now that more research is showing how beneficial it is, I hope that more consumers try out the diet. The diet is composed of mostly olive oil, fruits, and vegetables, all of which are good for you. The diet can also help reduce the risk of heart disease, prevent diabetes, and even lower cholesterol.”
Bellucci offers three different types of oil, including an organic option, with a mild peppery flavor and fruity undertones that will satisfy any palate. Bellucci Premium Toscano extra virgin olive oil uses olives that are grown on the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, and maintained by 3rd and 4th generation farmers. The third type of oil Bellucci produces is the finest 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, grown in many different regions of Italy.
