ATLANTA, Nov. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- OncoLens, a pioneer in tumor board and cancer treatment planning software solutions, recently announced the availability of its new workflow, data collection, and reporting features that help cancer centers more easily achieve the Commission on Cancer's (CoC) National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) standards.
According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States, with an estimated 145,600 new cases in 2019.
Achieving NAPRC accreditation is becoming increasingly urgent for cancer centers that are looking to attract these patients. However, cancer centers have struggled to document and track progress towards NAPRC accreditation as there have been no standardized tools available to understand what needs to be collected. Information also resides in disparate sources across separate offices and medical records systems. By providing smart forms and digital checklists of NAPRC requirements, the OncoLens solution guides care team members on the data and documentation that must be discussed in tumor board sessions and opens up a whole new level of collaboration, giving everyone a central repository to view the work that is being done on behalf of a patient. As a result, more colorectal cancer patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach and the evidence-based research on which the accreditation standards were built.
WellStar Health System, the largest health system in Georgia, is currently using the OncoLens solution to automate many of the manual processes it used to follow to prepare for and conduct tumor board conferences and is using the solution to attain NAPRC accreditation in its facilities.
According to Leigh Webb, Manager, Cancer Data Center, "The OncoLens team has done a great job interpreting and incorporating the highly complex NAPRC guidelines into their solution. We have been able to replace many of the cumbersome, manual processes and piles of reports and spreadsheets with a single system, where everyone can collaborate and formulate the most appropriate care plans for our patients while capturing accreditation requirements. Reports that used to take us days to create now can take less than a minute. The solution has been a game changer for our center."
According to Anju Mathew, co-founder and CEO of OncoLens, "Being first to market with capabilities that help cancer centers attain their goals of achieving accreditation while also providing better care to their patients is extremely important to us. Our commitment to leading cancer centers into a new generation of multispecialty collaboration using modern technology remains strong as evidenced in today's announcement."
How it Works
The OncoLens solution automates the collection of data and documents and streamlines the complex workflows required to conduct productive tumor board conferences and produce survivorship care plans. By making it easier for all members of a tumor board to collect, share and collaborate on cancer treatment plans, cancer centers are typically able to present at least twice as many cases in the same amount of time. In addition, cancer registrars are able to process cases in minutes instead of hours with pre-populated reports and accreditation requirements. Ultimately, more patients can benefit from multiple specialists participating in the creation of their treatment plans.
