Golden Globe-Winning Documentary and Coalition of Leading Brands and Organizations Unite Behind Announcement of 66 Million New Acres of Regenerative Farmland & Rangeland
NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- One Billion Acres, the global impact campaign born out of the Golden Globe-winning documentary Groundswell, officially launched today during New York Climate Week with a press conference followed by exclusive NYC premiere of the film at WHY REGENERATIVE in New York City. The event brought together filmmakers, farmers, brand leaders, and regenerative agriculture certifiers & verifiers to issue an urgent call to action: bring One Billion Acres into Regenerative Agriculture by 2030, as well as the commitment of 66 million new acres (of which 40+ million are U.S. farmland and rangeland) to regenerative management reaching ⅓ of the one billion acre goal.
Directed by Rebecca Tickell and Josh Tickell, Groundswell (available on Amazon) is the powerful finale to the filmmakers' acclaimed soil trilogy, following Kiss the Ground (2020) and Common Ground (2023). An Official Selection at the Festival de Cannes and winner of the Golden Globe Documentary Prize, the film reframes the climate, water, biodiversity, and human health crisis through a lens of actionable hope rather than despair, offering audiences a living blueprint for global renewal.
One Billion Acres is a pledge-based platform uniting governments, brands, farmers, investors, NGOs, and consumers around a shared goal: accelerating the transition of one billion acres worldwide to regenerative agriculture by 2030, while publicly tracking progress and recognizing leadership along the way. By restoring carbon, water, and nutrient cycles, regenerative agriculture strengthens soil health, improves water and air quality, and builds greater biodiversity, resilience, and economic opportunity for farmers.
Today's launch marks one of the largest coordinated regenerative agriculture announcements to date, with leading brands and organizations announcing new commitments toward the campaign's goal. Participating brands include Nespresso, Maker's Mark, Applegate, Quinn, Serenity Kids, Maison Mirabeau, Philosopher Foods, Azuluna Foods, White Oak Pastures, Yerba Madre, Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, StarWalker Organic Farms, Simpli, Pacha, and Wildfarmed.
The campaign's acreage commitments announced today are led by Grassroots Carbon and the Regenerative Organic Alliance, which have pledged to bring 40 million and 8 million acres, respectively, under regenerative management by 2030. Additional certifiers and verifiers supporting the effort include the Soil and Climate Initiative, Certified Regenerative Agriculture, Demeter, Enveritas, Ecological Outcome Verification, Land to Market, and regenagri.
The press conference featured remarks from campaign leaders and special guests, followed by an audience Q&A:
"After making more than twenty films over two decades to help stabilize our climate, the proof is in the regenerative organic pudding. Our storytelling has helped catalyze commitments to regenerate hundreds of millions of acres globally, shifting government policy, consumer choices, and corporate action. This is how systemic change happens: top down, bottom up, and middle out. Together, we're creating a groundswell we'll one day look back on and say: We did it. We found a way to heal our food system and, in doing so, helped heal ourselves and the Earth. Today's announcement is the beginning of a new age of regeneration."
— Rebecca Tickell, Director and Producer, Kiss the Ground, Common Ground and Groundswell
"When I first went all in on regenerative agriculture, I was determined to do whatever I could to help the world see its potential and celebrate the people doing the real work. I've spent the last 15 years helping build that possibility into a global movement, and I believe we're now at the moment when we can truly reach a tipping point."
— Finian Makepeace, Co-Founder of Kiss the Ground; Producer of Kiss the Ground, Common Ground, and Groundswell; Co-Lead, One Billion Acres
"For over a decade I have been championing a regenerative future. Today the 1Billion Acres campaign serves as a goal and global score board revealing the collective progress we are making towards this tipping point."
— Ryland Englehart, Co-Founder of Kiss the Ground; Co-founder American Regeneration; Producer of Kiss the Ground, Common Ground, and Groundswell; Co-Lead, One Billion Acres
"Regenerative agriculture is no longer a future ambition. For Nestlé, it's a business imperative. The challenge now is not proving it works, but scaling it across millions of hectares, thousands of suppliers, and entire value chains."
— Lisa K. Gibby Deputy Executive Vice President, Chief Communications Officer, Nestlé
"The path to one billion acres runs through America's ranches. Our ranching and cattle industry stewards more than 650 million acres of grazing lands, creating an extraordinary opportunity to restore soil, strengthen rural economies and build a more resilient food system. Grassroots Carbon has shown what is possible when ranchers come first, partnering with hundreds of ranching families across nearly 3 million acres in 22 states. Now we are raising our ambition. By 2030, we pledge to support improved grazing management across 40 million acres, helping build more resilient ranching communities for generations to come."
— Brad Tipper , CEO, Grassroots Carbon
"We celebrate farmers and communities committed to transitioning from industrial agriculture to verified regenerative organic systems," says Christopher Gergen, CEO of the Regenerative Organic Alliance. "To accelerate this transition, we need to build strong demand in the marketplace, invest in farmers, and uplift the environmental, economic, and nutritional benefits of this transformation. We can't afford to wait - we must farm like the world depends on it."
— Christopher Gergen, CEO, Regenerative Organic Alliance
"I believe the regenerative agriculture and healthy soil movement has the potential to be one of the most important initiatives for protecting our environment and strengthening food security around the world," said Laura Turner Seydel, Chair of the Turner Foundation and Executive Producer of Groundswell. "The 1 Billion Acre campaign can accelerate this movement. Healthy, regenerative soils can help farms become more resilient to extreme weather, including flooding, heat and drought, while reducing erosion and keeping harmful chemicals out of our drinking water. Regenerative farming can also produce healthier, more nutritious food while creating opportunities for farmers and ranchers to improve their profitability."
— Laura Turner Seydel, Turner Foundation / Turner Family Land (Bison)
"For the last thirty years, I've wondered whether I was a niche marketer or an early innovator in an emerging movement. Seeing films like Groundswell and an effort like One Billion Acres makes me believe the answer is becoming clear: this is a global movement."
— Will Harris, American Farmer/Owner, White Oak Pastures
