One Man Fights for Love Even Against ‘The Marriage Ban’
ABUJA, Nigeria (PRWEB) March 29, 2019 -- Yusuf Ahmad Bello marks his debut in the literary limelight with the release of “The Marriage Ban” (published by Archway Publishing), a novel charting one man’s search for love in a country riddled with tyranny and insurgency. Set in a fictional West African country called Hasoumiya, the book follows Zaidou, a tailor in his 40s, who is in a long search for marriage. When he met Zakiyyah, he falls in love and soon proposes. However, his dreams are dashed by the imposition of a five-year ban on all marriages by his country’s brutal dictator. From there, more trials stand in Zaidou’s way to love. Can their bond stand against all odds?
Weaving together elements of action, intrigue and humor, “The Marriage Ban” tackles issues arising from love and relationships in contemporary societies. “As loving creatures, a ban on marriage is the last thing humans will want to imagine. The aftermath of such a ban, which is the major theme, will attract readers’ curiosity,” Bello shares.
When asked what he aims for readers to take away from the book, he says, “Matters of the heart are such a powerful force.”
A snippet from “The Marriage Ban”:
This was the first time a lady had given him the kind of response that Zakiyyah had given him. All the ladies he’d courted had said either no or yes. For those who had said no, the story had ended there (except for Talatou, who had later said yes). For those who had said yes, either he or they had eventually ended the relationship.
Why was Zakiyyah’s response different from those of the others? Maybe that was how Arabs said yes, and she had learnt that culture from her mother.
