Video calling via TV removes technology barriers to impact social isolation
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Nov. 1, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ONSCREEN, addressing the growing problem of social isolation and loneliness in older adults using TV-based video calling, today announced the appointment of Costin Tuculescu as CEO and the addition of new advisory board members Brian Berning and Jay Grant.
"Most people assume that a smartphone or tablet provides an easy-to-use connection to family and friends, but this isn't always true, especially for the older population. Our team realized that additional barriers needed to come down to create a video calling solution that fits the needs of older adults, particularly those with age-related changes impacting their ability to use devices with smaller screens and higher complexity. That solution became ONSCREEN," says Costin Tuculescu, CEO.
Mr. Tuculescu has a history of bringing innovation to the market. He has built solutions for multiple industries, including video communication and collaboration. A former CEO of AnyMeeting, a SMB-focused video conferencing provider, he built the company into a multi-million dollar market leader by providing easy-to-use and affordable solutions for businesses. After managing its strategic sale in 2017 to Intermedia, a leading unified communications provider, he led its key video collaboration initiatives for several years.
"I am excited to bring this expertise to ONSCREEN's mission of keeping families connected, and the company is currently raising capital and evaluating distribution partnerships in the aging space to fulfill this goal at scale," Tuculescu added.
In addition to the new CEO, the company is expanding its advisory board with leaders from the longevity space.
Jay Grant brings expertise in the aging space and SaaS marketing from his role as VP of Marketing for GreatCall. Hired to prepare GreatCall for the original investors' exit, Jay drove the rapid transition to digital channels which resulted in accelerating the growth of customer acquisition while simultaneously lowering the customer acquisition costs and increasing the average revenue per subscriber. Jay was also instrumental in building the team, processes, and foundational technology to support growth that continues to this day. He will work with the ONSCREEN team to help achieve similar results.
Brian Berning has over 20 years of strategic healthcare leadership, including his current role as Managing Director of Corza Health. He recently served as the CFO at GreatCall, the leading provider of connected health solutions for seniors which he successfully guided through its acquisition by GTCR in 2017 and ultimate sale to Best Buy a year later for $800 million. His experience in startups, financing, M&A, age tech, and the healthcare space brings a unique understanding of the market and ONSCREEN's growth in it.
"We know that the majority of older adults want to age at home – and their adult children want to know that they're safe, healthy and not socially isolated," notes Brian Berning. "I look forward to working with this team to bring a meaningful solution to a complex challenge."
