NORTH AMITYVILLE, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Opportunities Long Island today announced that alongside Minority Millennials, Inc. - a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping young people of color access jobs, build wealth, and become more civically engaged - will launch a strategic partnership to fill 20 apprenticeships, leading to jobs that will pay $80,000 on average.
The apprenticeships will be filled by young Long Islanders focusing on Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC). Minority Millennials will activate widespread social media and online marketing, plus grassroots campaigns and community partnerships to introduce these lucrative career opportunities to normally underrepresented groups and communities.
"Working directly with Minority Millennials will help trades diversify their membership and reach more members of the community." said Erica Rechner, a veteran union and trade leader. She serves as the Executive Director of Opportunities Long Island. "This grassroots partnership will make a significant difference in successful recruiting, hiring, and career-building — leading to families and communities becoming transformed."
This partnership will connect Black and Brown job seekers to 30 different trade unions from the Nassau-Suffolk Building and Construction Trades. Apprenticeship participants will work with OLI staff to apply for a union apprenticeship opportunity. OLI staff support throughout the application process and receive continued support by OLI staff after successful job placement.
"We believe a major solution to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in workforce development is equipping young people of color with the tools, skills, and access to career opportunities that will create generational wealth within our communities," said Dan Lloyd, Founder, and CEO of Minority Millennials. "These partnerships that we have built over the past few years serve as a repeatable framework for a diverse, industry-responsive talent pool that is an economic driver of growth, equity, and prosperity for Long Island."
