WILMETTE, Ill., April 01, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "One of the biggest challenges facing the construction industry over the next ten years will be a shrinking pool of qualified professionals," cautions Lisa Pickell, president of Orren Pickell Building Group. "That's why our firm has been dedicated to training and mentoring new talent, as well as partnering with schools and nonprofit groups to help people learn new skills."
The firm has further cemented their commitment to the next generation of craftspeople by bringing in Rachel Silverstein as Director of Training and Development. Silverstein will lead the firm's efforts to build a stronger labor force through apprenticeships and internships, and work with young men and women who are seeking options outside of a traditional college path.
Silverstein brings experience as a corporate trainer and manufacturing industries to her role at Orren Pickell Building Group. As innovative national apprenticeship programs aim to deliver an alternate route to success for non-collegebound youth, she has already seen the benefits first-hand. "Working at the ground level, we can give those entering the workforce a different way to achieve the American Dream," offers Silverstein. "There are some things you can't learn in a classroom. Instead, we help craftspeople pass along their experience as they apply it every day."
"Training today's youth is not only good for our business, but for our industry and the builders of tomorrow as well," adds Pickell. "We see it as our responsibility to create a better future for all, not just for our clients. Rachel represents a key component in keeping that promise."
Orren Pickell Building Group has been a leading design-build firm on Chicago's North Shore for more than 40 years. The company creates custom homes throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan.
