The year-long project is one of the biggest and most stable to date

After a year of work, Ortus Solutions, Corp announced the final release of ColdBox 6. ColdBox, a conventions-based MVC Framework, provides a set of reusable code and tools that can be used to increase development productivity, as well as a development standard for working in team environments. The widely used platform which includes its standalone libraries: WireBox, CacheBox, and LogBox, is used by Fortune 500 companies including Adobe and L’Oréal and by government entities such as NASA, the Department of Labor, and the FAA.

This release sports five dramatic new features as it keeps pushing for more modern and sustainable approaches to web development. “We are so excited to bring another major release of our ColdBox Platform version 6.0. This new platform will be the standard for web applications and APIs built on ColdFusion (CFML) for the next 5-10 years as we will be catapulting them to delivering cloud/container/API applications that are secure, flexible, modular, scalable and more importantly, MODERN,” said Luis Majano, CEO of Ortus Solutions.

“REST is now a first class citizen in ColdBox with our new RestHandler capabilities so developers can create and generate RESTFul applications with simplicity and elegance. We have completely re-imagined exception handling and we now provide developers with a Modern Exception Handling experience called Whoops! This includes visual code navigations, which are extensible and inline. It will also transform the development experience and accelerate bug tracking. Additionally, we have also harnessed the power of Java Completable Futures and parallel programming to give ColdFusion developers an easy and scalable API to introduce asynchronicity and parallel constructs to their programming. Everything can be non-blocking with ColdBox 6, and almost everything internally is non-blocking,” concluded Majano.

ColdBox 6 and its HTML rendering enhancements provide a five-fold speed increase for certain applications. It is a must for companies to adopt in order to transform their legacy and monolithic applications to modern, scalable and hierarchical applications or micro services.
