OSF HealthCare Announces Leadership Transition
Peoria, IL (PRWEB) September 14, 2016 -- Sister Judith Ann Duvall, O.S.F., Chairperson of OSF Healthcare System, has announced that Kevin Schoeplein, Chief Executive Officer of OSF Healthcare System and Vice - Chairperson for the Boards of OSF, has announced his intention to retire at the end of 2017. To facilitate a smooth transition, Bob Sehring, Chief Executive Officer, Central Region, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer of OSF HealthCare on January 1, 2017. Sehring will become Chief Executive Officer of OSF Healthcare System when Schoeplein retires.
“Kevin is a true servant leader. It is never easy to see someone of his caliber, tenure, intellectual acuity, vision, and personal integrity come to this milestone in their professional life,” said Sister Judith Ann. “Our Sisters will forever be grateful to Kevin for leading us in the journey as a growing and connected health care delivery system and for engaging our Mission Partners (employees) in transforming health care in the service of human life.”
Schoeplein began his career with The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis in 1978 as an Assistant Administrator at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria until 1983, when he was appointed Administrator/CEO of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. In 1988, he returned to Peoria to serve as President of OSF Saint Francis, Inc., which included the formation and development of OSF Medical Group.
In 1989, Schoeplein was named the first President of the OSF Healthcare Foundation. From 1996 - 1999, he served as CEO of the Northern Illinois/Michigan Region, before being named President and CEO of OSF HealthPlans in 1999. In 2003, Schoeplein was named Executive Vice President of OSF Healthcare System before assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer on March 1, 2011. Schoeplein also holds numerous state and national health care board positions.
“Gratitude is the word that comes to mind as I look back over my 38 years with OSF Healthcare System,” reflected Schoeplein in attributing his years of success to all of the Mission Partners he has worked with and the guiding vision of the Sisters. “It is rare to find a professional home that not only welcomes one’s abilities and knowledge, but also provides a breadth of opportunities for growth over a lifetime. The dedication and faith of the Sisters has given me the strength to lead the transformation that put OSF HealthCare on the national map as an example of innovation and excellence in health care.”
Over the next 16 months, Schoeplein will focus on the vibrancy and stability of OSF HealthCare as he brings Bob Sehring into the role of COO in January 2017 and, ultimately, as CEO.
Sehring came to OSF in 2002 as Vice President for Business Support Services for OSF HealthPlans, Inc. until he was promoted to CEO of that organization in 2004. Following the sale of OSF HealthPlans to Humana, Sehring served as CEO of Ambulatory and Accountable Care for OSF and was instrumental in orchestrating the successful application to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) Innovation for OSF to be selected one of 32 CMS Pioneer Accountable Care Organizations (ACO). In 2013, Sehring was appointed Chief Ministry Services Officer before being named Chief Executive Officer, Central Region, in February 2015.
