DOCOMO made a strategic investment in Otter through its wholly-owned subsidiary NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. and announced plans for its AI-based translation service subsidiary to integrate Otter's meeting note collaboration into its offering to provide highly accurate English transcripts translated into Japanese.

As a part of Otter's customer engagement with DOCOMO the Otter Voice Meeting Notes application is being used on a trial basis in Berlitz Corporation's English language classes in Japan. DOCOMO is featuring Otter during demonstrations at the DOCOMO Open House 2020, taking place in the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition complex January 23 and 24, 2020. The Otter application will transcribe the English language presentations in real-time which will then be translated into Japanese using a machine translation engine jointly developed by DOCOMO and one of its subsidiaries. Both the English transcription and a simultaneous Japanese translation will be projected on a large screen so lectures can be presented and understood in both English and Japanese.
The Otter application automatically records sentences according to the context of a speech, even over long multi-party conversations, and can transcribe text with high accuracy in real time. AI is used to identify and label speakers by name in meetings, and their conversations are accurately transcribed, significantly reducing the time required to produce reports or meeting minutes. In addition, users can search transcribed content by keyword and play back specific sections merely by selecting the text on the screen, making it easy to review and share the content of meetings, improving productivity and team collaboration.
