On New Year’s Day, viewers across the world will be able to watch the No. 9 Auburn Tigers take the field against the No. 16 Minnesota Golden Gophers in The Outback Bowl. The Bowl will be telecast on ESPN TV and available to an international audience
However, the Tampa Bay area will receive additional exposure in the days leading up to the game during a half-hour Outback Bowl Preview Special, which will be televised at least four times throughout the nation on multiple ESPN TV networks while highlighting beautiful sites, cultural assets, and charitable organizations across the Tampa Bay region.
“This show will not only promote the game but will showcase the Tampa Bay area and the impact the Outback Bowl has on the region,” said Jim McVay, President/CEO of the Outback Bowl. “We hope the show will help viewers see all the ways the Outback Bowl is so much more than just a game.”
The first national airing will be on Sunday, December 29th at 1:30P.M. (ET) on ESPN2. The half-hour show is hosted by WFLA TV Sports Director Dan Lucas. Viewers will enjoy an examination of the Minnesota and Auburn match-up and highlights of the numerous amenities around Tampa that fans and teams will enjoy during their trip. Some of the area amenities highlighted in this year’s show will include Sparkman Wharf, the Tampa Riverwalk, Zoo Tampa and Busch Gardens.
Additionally, this year’s show will give insight into the Bowl’s Charitable Giving Initiative, which has given $1.5 million in support to more than 110 charitable organizations across Tampa Bay. “We’re thrilled to be able to showcase the importance of giving back to charity, as well as the amazing things locally-based non-profits are doing for our region on a national stage,” said McVay.
